HOW TO CALCULATE WELDING LENGTH ON TKY JOINT


Good day all……….

This post I will share to you about formula how to measure welding length on TKY joint. It’s applicable on Welding Jacket, Pipe Rack, Vent Boom, Platform, Shipbuilding, and etc.

To calculate welding length on TKY joint please follow below instruction:

a. Determine a radius of Riser

Formula:

= D/d

= …… (Refer table 1 to determine radius of riser as per each degrees)

b. Determine circum of Riser

Formula: 

= Diameter brace x Radius of Riser

= ……….m

c. Determine Volume of welding (mm)

To determine welding volume we must follow with below mandatory items:

Formula of Weld Volume:

= (0.5t² + 4.8 t + 10.24)/18

Which:

t= Thickness or Fillet Size (mm)

d. Determine of Welding Length (m)

Formula:        

= Circum of Riser x Weld Volume

Case Study:

1. Please calculate welding length on TKY Joint Jacket brace below:

Diameter of Leg = Ǿ 64 “

Leg Length = 1400 mm

Diameter of Brace = Ǿ 32 “Thickness 25.4 mm

Degrees  = 50°

Joint Design  = Single Bevel

Answer:

Radius of Riser     

= D/d

= 64/32

= 2

            Looking the table to get value Radius of Riser

Radius of Riser

= 3.69 (from table above)

Circum of Riser

= Diameter brace x Radius of Riser

= (32”x25.4) x 3.69

= 2,999.232 mm

= 2.999 m

Weld Volume 

= (0.5t² + 4.8t + 10.24)/18

= 24.6

So,

Welding Length TKY = Circum x Weld Volume

= 2.999 x 24.6

= 73.7754 m

2. Please calculate welding length on TKY Joint Jacket brace below:

Diameter of Leg = Ǿ 42 “

Leg Length = 1400 mm

Diameter of Brace  = Ǿ 32 “Thickness 16 mm

Degrees   = 30°

Joint Design  = Single Bevel

Answer:

Radius of Riser    

= D/d

= 42/32

= 1.3

Looking the table to get value Radius of Riser

Radius of Riser          

= 5.02(from table above)

Circum of Riser         

= Diameter brace x Radius of Riser

= (32”x25.4) x 5.02

= 4,080.256mm

= 4.080 m

Weld Volume       

= (0.5t² + 4.8t + 10.24)/18

= 11.95

So,

Welding Length TKY = Circum x Weld Volume

= 4.080 x 11.95

= 48.756 m
